GLOOMHAVEN: The Great Gourd Race

The story

Barnaby Butterfield, a lanky farmer with a perpetual cloud of misfortune, inherited the famed 'Golden Patch' pumpkin farm – and its legendary prize-winning gourd, 'Goliath.' Unfortunately, the farm is deep in debt, and Barnaby's smarmy cousin, Reginald 'Reggie' Snodgrass, holds the note, eager to seize the land for his own high-tech 'Snodgrass Super Gourds' operation. The only way Barnaby can save the farm is by winning the annual 'Gloomhaven Gourd Race,' a chaotic, image-driven spectacle where giant gourds are propelled by various wacky mechanisms across treacherous terrain. Barnaby, with the help of his eccentric, gadget-building niece, Lily, outfits Goliath with an array of improbable contraptions: a potato-powered jetpack, a turnip-treadmill, and even a squirrel-driven steering wheel. The race is a montage of visual gags: Reggie's sleek, laser-guided gourd taking out competitors with precision, while Barnaby's Goliath careens wildly, narrowly avoiding mud pits, giant rolling hay bales, and the occasional rogue chicken. In the climax, Reggie attempts to sabotage Goliath, but his own advanced tech backfires spectacularly, launching him into a giant apple pie. Barnaby, through sheer luck and Goliath's surprising resilience, crosses the finish line in a spectacular, mud-splattered explosion of glory, winning the prize money, saving the farm, and finally earning a moment of good fortune.
