PALADURA: The Amber Cataract

The story

In the cliff-world of Paladura, the village of Oakhaven hangs suspended over a pitch-black, bottomless abyss where giant chitinous sky-behemoths dwell. Young mute scavenger Kaelen harvests glowing fuel nodes from the Amber Cataract, a towering, petrified waterfall of luminescent golden ice. When the abyss trembles and the beasts begin an apocalyptic ascent toward the surface, Kaelen realizes the Cataract is a massive ancient light conduit designed to repulse them. Arming herself with a master amber core, she begins a perilously steep climb up the thousand-foot golden ice face, accompanied by Pip, her clockwork falcon. She is hunted by Vane, a ruthless rival scavenger intent on stealing the master core for black-market profit. High on the icy face, Vane attacks, but a breaching leviathan shattered the cliff, stranding Vane. Kaelen saves her pursuer, earning his stunned respect. Reaching the highest peak, Kaelen plunges the master core into the Apex Solar Beacon. The Cataract bursts into a roaring torrent of golden energy, blinding the sky-behemoths and driving them permanently back into the depths.
