VORTEXIS: The Leviathan Engine

The story

In the perpetual storm world of Vortexis, humanity survives aboard high-altitude floating cities tethered above a toxic cloud ocean. When Engine-07, a colossal ancient atmospheric generator, suffers a catastrophic reactor failure and begins falling toward the civilian metropolis of Cloud-Haven, scavenger pilot Vesper launches her skiff to board the falling leviathan. Joined by her loyal drone KIX, she navigates the slick, lightning-struck outer hull while pursued by Silas Vane, a ruthless salvage captain determined to strip the core's rare zero-point cell for profit. Plunging into the machine's grinding internal chasms, Vesper fights off automated defense drones and Silas's boarders. Reaching the scorching zero-gravity reactor chamber, Vesper outmaneuvers Silas, locking him in an airlock before executing a high-risk manual core ignition. With seconds remaining before impact, the leviathan's anti-gravity thrusters ignite in a blinding golden shockwave, arresting the engine's descent and lifting it back into the upper heavens.
